HOW WE WORK

How a ‘Take 10’ Signature Session works (+ what you get)

You get Three images per 10-minute session that are picked by the photographer (no galleries to choose from)

Most common combos:

→ Individual shot of each child + one of them together (two kids in the family)

→ Two shots of only child + family shot

→ Three shots of one child/baby

PLEASE NOTE ‘Take 10’ Monthly Milestone Sessions are the same but saved for parents on mat/pat leave with reduced income.

  • This is a very common question! Our ‘Take 10’ Sessions come with three images (picked at photographer’s discretion) that are shot in 10 minutes. They can be any combo, and one session is a popular choice for parents with two kids (individual shots of each kid + a shot of them together). Typically, more time + more shots are needed if there are more than two kids. But it’s your call. You know your kids best.

  • Yes! What you choose for your three images is up to you.

  • Our number one question! And it totally depends on whether or not it’s a black and white or colour shoot. For both, though, rich tones are best. Pastels do not translate well with our white background, and denim always looks AMAZING. So here’s the deal with white. Jen personally loves it and always shoots her kids in white t’s, but it’s a look, and you should check out our Instagram to ensure it’s what you love, too!

  • Part of why Jen loves her job + part of what she tries to accomplish is capturing (+ supporting) kids as their authentic selves. And this can mean so many things: shy, active, outgoing, nervous etc. And all of that is OK! It’s very rare that things don’t go smoothly and we’re able to capture some fun shots with the right support. So stick with us and know your kid will be fully supported and encouraged. Just as they are.

  • Well, this is an important question. And the answer can change depending on the child, that’s for sure. But the best thing we can BOTH do is take your child’s lead. And trust us, they may surprise you! I understand every parent wants to help get the most out of every session, including lots of smiles, and we’ll be working hard to connect with your child to build trust and have some fun! So don’t worry, we’ll guide you (but please stay out of standing directly in front of the light!) ;)

  • Exciting! So, we know how badly you want these photos back and work as quickly as possible to get them out the door. Our typical turn around is 2-3 weeks but know we’re always committed to getting them back as soon as we can! They’ll come to you via dropbox link to your email and you can download from there to your computer! Voila!

  • We do not offer printing. In Toronto, Downtown Camera offers great quality + price. Jen steers away from Costo and Staples as clients have had terrible results.

@oppositewall has the best quality/price/options available in Canada for framing. IKEA also has 24x36” frames at an awesome price.

How a ‘Take 10’ Spotlight Session works (+ what you get)

You get Three images per 10-minute session that are picked by the photographer (no galleries to choose from)

Most common combo:

→ Individual shot of each child

  • Our ‘Take 10’ Spotlight Sessions are the newest addition to our line-up and are close-up encounters with your kids that are whimsical, touching and a moment to simply see them.

  • Absolutely perfect for ages 0-102; your wee humans should be able to hold up their heads. But if you’re obsessed and want it of your newest babe, we’ll make it happen.

  • The simple answer is no. These are intended as solo portraits, only.

  • The ‘Take 10’ Spotlight Sessions are currently only available in black and white.

How a ‘Take 10’ Celebration Session works (+ what you get)

You get Six images per 20-minute session that are picked by the photographer (no galleries to choose from)

Most common combos:

→ Individual shot of child in numbered shirt + the rest with something they love to eat

→ Individual shot of child in special outfit + shot with a balloon or numbered shirt, and the rest with something they love to eat

→ Individual shot of child in special outfit, family shot + the rest with something they love to eat

→ Many shots of the child with a numbered balloon or large solid-coloured balloon

  • Well, yes. Within reason, of course. We’ve seen pizza, donuts, cake, cupcakes, cookies, spaghetti + meatballs, watermelon, strawberries, popsicles, ice cream cones and even a jar of pickles.

  • Congrats on booking such a FUN shoot! We encourage you to bring partners/family with you as it is always a great time. On-site, there are always a couple of cake stands to choose from, and you’re welcome to bring donuts, cupcakes, cakes, favourite foods (yup, ice cream, pizza or watermelon) or props like a balloon (not white) or # sign. And to be honest, a lot of the time, these newly minted one-year-olds aren’t into this cake, so if this is your shoot, bring a wee snack we can tuck in there so it helps with taking a bite!

  • Yes! What you choose for your six images is up to you.

  • Most definitely.

How a ‘Take 10’ Headshot Session works (+ what you get)

You get Three images per 10-minute session that are picked by the photographer (no galleries to choose from) with three different “poses”

Most common combos:

→ Two shots with different poses in client-facing outfit, another shot in a more casual outfit or removing a jacket/blazer/tie to make it more casual

→ Shot on a stool and a couple of shots standing

  • Number one rule. Wear something that you feel good in and something comfortable. It shows. Also, it’s good practice to wear clothing that is fitted and not baggy/bulky in any way. Headshots are casual these days, and dark denim and a great shirt are a winning combo. But Jen typically suggests a client-facing outfit and a more casual one for our shoots. You might as well get the most out of the session!

  • Yes! Jen is great at helping find a position that feels like you and is appropriate for what you do!

  • It’s true. Having a blow out really helps make you feel awesome and Jen often recommends it. For make up, simply apply more than you typically put on in the morning. Or, if you feel it would help you feel incredible, seek a professional for help!

  • Ah, this is a very popular question. And the answer is simple. If you wear a tie when you’re with clients, then yes, a tie is a good idea. If you don’t, then let’s skip it. But if you do occasionally, then let’s grab a shot with a tie and a shot without the tie. Super flexible for multiple uses. Psssst, LinkedIn is super casual these days, so feel free to bring a different shirt or a pair of denim!
